FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mayor Blomquist Announces Re-Election Bid for Harker Heights, Highlighting Record Infrastructure Success and Veteran Advocacy

HARKER HEIGHTS, TX — Mayor Michael Blomquist has officially announced a bid for a second term as Mayor of Harker Heights (2026-2029), citing a first term defined by historic legislative wins, multi-million dollar infrastructure savings, and a commitment to the long-term sustainability of “The Bright Star of Central Texas.”

Reflecting on the accomplishments of the 2023–2026 term, Mayor Blomquist highlighted three cornerstone achievements that have reshaped Harker Heights’ future:

· Historic Disabled Veteran Assistance Payments: In a landmark victory for the community, Mayor Blomquist worked alongside State Representative Hillary Hickland and State Senator Pete Flores to pass HB 2894. Signed by Governor Abbott in 2025, this bill ensures Harker Heights receives state reimbursement for 100% Disabled Veterans assistance payments—the first time in city history such support has been secured. This is a huge accomplishment.

· Infrastructure & Fiscal Responsibility: Through the Wastewater Connector Project with WCID#1 South, the Mayor’s office secured the city’s sewer requirements through full buildout of Harker Heights while saving City ratepayers an estimated $35 million.

· Securing Our Water Future: As a representative to the Central Texas Council of Governments, the Mayor helped spearhead the Central Texas Water Alliance (HB 2626). As the signing representative for Harker Heights, this 27-entity coalition will allow for strong negotiating positions for all members to meet their future water needs and demands to allow for continued growth as communities build into the future.

A Vision for the Second Term Looking ahead to 2026 and beyond, Mayor Blomquist’s platform focuses on “Smart Growth” and the continued safety of all residents:

· Continued Advocacy: Building on the success of HB 2894, I will return to Austin to lobby and work with our elected State officials for increased state appropriations for our City.

· Smart Growth & Essential Services: I remain committed to not raising our City tax rate while prioritizing road repairs and infrastructure improvements. High on the priority list is expanding the Harker Heights Fire Department with additional staffing and a new ambulance to ensure top-tier EMS care.

· Law, Order, and Stability: Reaffirming a lifelong commitment to the rule of law and following our State and Federal Constitution, I pledge to continue providing lawful stability required to keep Harker Heights a safe, flourishing community for all citizens.

“It has been the honor of my life to serve as your Mayor,” said Mayor Blomquist. “We have worked to secure our future water needs, protect our taxpayers, and finally stood up for all Harker Heights citizens in Austin on multiple occasions. But our work isn’t finished. I am asking for your support to continue building a stronger Harker Heights that is better prepared, prosperous, and secure for generations to come.”
